Quilters’ Haven Lakewood, New York

Owned by Janice Shoup, Quilters’ Haven is located about six miles from Interstate 86 in Lakewood, New York. The venue houses the Cala Lily Yarn Shop, and the Sew Inspirational Long Arm service, as well as the quilt shop.

This unique shop carries both cotton quilting fabrics, which can be used for both quilts and clothing, and rayon batiks for clothing. Quilting cottons range from solids and blenders to some really nice prints, as well as batiks, grunge, and flannels. With over 3.000 bolts to choose from, you will be hard pressed not to find something that needs to follow you home!

Miss Jan started sewing clothing in high school, and still teaches this skill when requested. As someone who started sewing my own shirts from feed sacks when I was eight years old, I can appreciate the need for this, even if I generally only sew quilts now. I do love the drape of the rayon batiks for shirts!

Make sure you check out this quilt in the back of the shop. It is the owner’s design, and with the help of her kids to translate the photo into a PDF, it is the logo for the shop. You can see it on her business cards. After all, if you are going to have a quilt shop, why use a stock photo?

There are samples available for inspiration, as well as kits if you prefer to use them. A special one is the Rag Flag Quilt, designed and kitted in house. Don’t miss the layer cakes, charm packs, and jelly rolls in baskets and on shelves around the shop.

Sew Inspirational Long Arm Quilting is also housed in the shop. Bring in your latest top (flimsy) and see what Miss Jan can do to finish it for you.

Plan to spend at least 30 to 45 minutes here. The store is quarantine closed right now, so please check before driving to visit.
