Amy Baughman’s Sewing & Quilting Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania

Just about three minutes from Interstate 79’s Route 228 exit is Amy Baughman’s Sewing & Quilting. If you are traveling anywhere near here, stop in and visit. Of course, after May you will need to go a couple of exits north to the Zelienople exit…

Very few house fires lead to a viable business, but that was owner Amy Baughman’s response after she suffered a fire in her home years ago. Since the living room was conveniently empty, she started holding sewing classes in her home. When she started selling machines and fabric, she rented space and opened a shop. She is now in process of building a new 12,700 square foot shop and event center in Zelienople, scheduled to open in late May, 2020. In this facility she will finally have on site classroom space.

The shop carries Brother, Janome, and Bernina Sewing Machines, with Elna coming soon. You can get anything from a basic “just let me sew” machine to a workhorse that will sew through leather belts to a top of the line embroidery machine – and anything in between. Son and partner Zak Baughman is the in house repair person for all of the machines, and is looking forward to more space in the new location!

Take a few minutes to check out the machines in the front room. Each comes with unlimited lessons on how to use them, and any machine sold here is repaired here. When you are done looking at threads and machines out front, wander into the next room and check out the fabric. There are well over 1,000 bolts on hand, with about 1,000 more on order to be delivered to the new location.

There is a great selection of Grunge fabrics, as well as blenders and prints. Fat quarters are conveniently located near the bolts they were cut from, so if you like the fabric but only need a little, they are right there for you to pick up.

Amy Baughman also carries a great selection of threads for quilting and embroidery, including Mettler Cotton and Rovision Anton threads. Stop in and check out all of the colors!

Keep your eyes open for samples hung above the shelves and from the ceiling. The one at the left shows how the latest designer machines can scan and digitize whatever you’d like to embroider. I can see real potential here for making my grandchildren;s pictures into quilt blocks.

Please watch their website (or sign up for the mailing list) to see when the actual move date occurs. With construction and weather it is not firm yet. A quick call before stopping in may be in order, but don’t let that make you miss this shop!
