Located just over eight miles from US 30, this shop has been owned and operated by the Lapp family since 1983; current owners are Christopher and Shannon Lapp. The shop hosts bus tours as well as stop in clientele, and handles both quite well. There was a bus there when I arrived, but this experienced staff handled questions and the rush with no problem whatsoever. You can park on the same side as the shop, or there is a larger lot across the road. Don’t worry about getting across the road; it is definitely a rural area!
You will see quilts displayed outside if the weather allows, but first, let’s talk about fabric. There are well over 3,000 bolts on hand. Don’t be fooled – what you see when you walk in is not all of it by any means. It climbs the stairs and occupies the second floor, too. There are wonderful batiks, a great collection of Civil War prints, and large and small prints. Solids, tone on tones, and blenders are available. Both plain and metallic Grunge are on hand. Christmas prints are available year round, and don’t miss the panels, Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, and Jelly Rolls. If you have a youngster in your world, or are expecting one, check out the cloth book panels. I have used these to make both books and quilts, with each page as a block in the quilt. Plenty of wide backings are also on hand.
The shop also sells completed quilt, made by local Amish and Mennonite communities. Every sample you see is also for sale. There are kits available for complete quilts, and a great selection of completed items for sale. These include pillows, place mats, table runners, candle rings, and Quillows. A Quillow is a quilt that folds into it’s own pillow., and these are wonderful for kids watching television, sleepovers, and, and just chilling out on the couch.
I would plan to spend at least twenty to forty-five minutes here to see all of the goodies.
