Tucked away in an older strip mall just under two miles from Interstate 40, keep an eye out for Gold Beauty Supply – the shop is right next door. The shop was purchased by two sisters in 2005. One of the sisters was unable to continue, but owner Pam Burkhalter added a new partner (Kim) and continues to run the shop, serving local quilters and crafters with a great selection of fabrics and crafting supplies. Both Pam and Kim have years of quilting experience, so if you have questions or need a bit of help, don’t hesitate to ask. Smiles are always on hand!
You will find wonderful fabric here, over 1,000 bolts of temptation from M & S Aboriginals to solids and blenders. There are also batiks and wide backings, not to mention large prints, many great candidates for Stack-n-Whack (yes, I know, but that’s my thing…) Small prints are available as well, as are Fat Quarter Packs, Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, and Layer Cakes. Don’t miss the wonderful panels!
Samples are displayed throughout the shop, and there are patterns. Some are class samples. There is a running class that teaches a new block every month. A hand quilting group also meets here, so if you’d like to work with company or learn this skill, check out the class schedule for times and dates. Long arm services are available; please contact the shop for pricing and lead times. Binding is offered in addition to quilting, and binding only is also an option.
The shop also teaches Brazilian Embroidery. I had not seen this before – the designs feature three dimensional portions that are simply exquisite. I can see a collection of flower blocks done this way as a stunning quilt! Miss Pam also does quilt restoration, so if you have an heirloom in need of some TLC, please contact the shop for that as well.
I would plan to spend twenty to forty minutes here, longer if you get into a discussion of the embroidery techniques – it was fascinating!
