I had to stop at Sandy’s to celebrate my next younger sister, Sandy, who is an accomplished seamstress as well as a quilter. Located just under eight miles from I64/I75, this shop started as a sewing machines store with a large fabric store next door. When the fabric store closed, owner Sandy Reid started adding fabric to go with the classes she teaches. It is a carefully curated selection of what her customer’s want, while the main focus remains machines.
I counted just over 200 bolts of fabric on hand, but don’t skip this shop because of that. There are some wonderful blenders and a nice collection of pin dots and flannel. There is some batik, but it doesn’t sell well in her area so she limits it carefully. I found some wonderful large prints that would make wonderful stack-n-whack candidates, and smaller prints as well. There are also Jelly Rolls, Fat Quarter Bundles, and Layer Cakes. Don’t miss the selection of wide backings to complete your project.
This sampler is a delightful mix of piecing and embroidery, as well as a great demonstration of the long arm services available here. It can be yours for a price – bring your checkbook! Please call the shop for pricing and lead times on the long arm services.
Classes offered range from a week long summer Kids Can Sew Day Camp to a weekly Work On It Wednesday, where you can bring your machine and your latest project and socialize while you work. Help is available if you’re stuck. Do check out the other samples and classes, including the bags and patterns. Yes, there is a class for the bags!
The shop is a registered dealer for Husqvarna Viking machines, and does cleaning and tune-ups for all brands. Sewing furniture, including chairs and machine cabinets, is also available. I would plan at least twenty to thirty minutes here.
