Located just under three miles from US 23 in eastern Kentucky, this delightful shop grew out of a service project at owner Jan Joseph’s church. She was selected for a program that taught teachers to teach quilting, and required service hours after the classes. This lead to the Sew-N-Love ministry at her church, making pillowcase dresses and reusable women’s supplies, among other things, for Kenya, which then grew into this shop.
The shop carries a wonderful selection of fabrics, including large and small prints quite suitable for Stack-n-Whack. There are also solids and blenders, a selection of wide backings, and a few batiks. Check out the Jelly Rolls, Fat Quarter bundles, and Layer Cakes. There are over 900 bolts of fabric here, so you’re sure to find several that must follow you home. Browse the pattern selection and find something to go with your fabric if you don’t have a project in mind already. I tend to go both directions, either I find a fabric and then figure out what to make with it, or I find a pattern and then select fabric that I think goes with it. Don’t miss the panels! I’ve been using a fair number of these lately for Quilts for Survivors.
There is a Block Party every Thursday, where you can sew a pre-cut block and enjoy fellowship with other quilters. There is a different block every week, so you can build a sampler as you learn new blocks, or go home and repeat one you like in a full sized quilt. There are samples of the blocks on display in the shop; the ones at the right are a small selection of what is available. There are also sample quilts and pillowcase dresses on display, so do check these out while you’re browsing. I would plan to be here for twenty to thirty minutes.
