Located just under four miles from Interstate 275, this unique shop is housed in a 175 year old Baptist Church building.Owner Vicki Gentry-Reiterhas been serving the local and national quilting community here for years, and was listed as one of the top 10 shops in the country in 2018 by Quilt Sampler magazine. Don’t forget to admire the architecture as well as the quilts and fabrics! Now, about the fabric…
There are well over 2,000 bolts of fabric on hand here. Designers include Tula Pink, Kaffe Fassett, Charlie Harper, Riley Blake’s Shades, Alexander Henry, and others. Solids, blenders, and tone on tones are on hand to compliment the large and small prints. There is a wonderful selection of batiks, and a great collection of wide backings. If you enjoy 30’s Reproduction fabrics, there is a great collection here to temp you. Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, and Jelly Rolls are also on hand. There is a Deal of the Day and Fabric of the Month on the website, so check this out and see what kind of trouble you can get into! Don’t miss the selection of five yard and three yard bundles. Patterns for both these and other quilts are available, as well as kits for quilts with both fabric and pattern included. Check out the antique machines on display as you tour the shop.
Samples and more samples – don’t miss a trip down to the classroom to see the samples there as well. This shop offers classes in quilting at all skill levels, as well as general sewing. There is an Open Sew the first Saturday of every month. Bring your projects and quilt with old and new friends, and get some help is you’re stuck. Check out the Facebook Live Thirty on Thursdays, where a new block or technique is taught every week.
There are two long arm systems in house – and this is not one of them! It is s cool machine though, and since my long arm pictures were fuzzy I couldn’t resist. Long arm services are available, or you can rent time on one of the machines after taking a class to teach you usage that is safe for you and the machine. Please contact the shop for costs and lead times for these services.
If you are visiting in the summer, join the Quilt Walk. Quilts are displayed in windows around town and in the library, and visitors can vote for their favorite. There is also Retreat space, with housing at a local hotel. Please contact the shop for details on this as well. I would plan to be here for at least forty minutes to an hour to see and enjoy everything.
