Welcome to 2023! Hopefully everyone had a blessed Christmas and a joyful New Year’s celebration. Today we look at a shop located less than two miles from Interstate 84. Google Maps takes you to the back door; the shop faces Third Street so it is easy to correct. Owner Ruthie Bliss holds retreats at the shop, with a hotel across the street, so if you have a group in the area or want tyo bring your group, please call for more information.
With over 6,000 bolts of fabric on hand, you are sure to find several that need to follow you home. Offerings include wonderful batiks, over 110 wide backings in both cotton and 90″ Minkee, and solids. Blenders include Grunge in both plain and stars, and there are beautiful prints both large and small. White Tone on Tones are also available. Christmas fabrics are on hand all year. Shelving is sorted by color or vendor whenever it makes sense, so you can find Kaffe Fassett, Riley Blake, and Northcott grouped together for tempting purposes. Moda’s Thatched is on hand, as well as most Moda lines. There are Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, and Jelly Rolls, and a nice selection of Fat Quarter Packs to give you a piece of the entire line if you so desire. There are also over 200 panels in stock, not to mention flannels and children’s prints.
There are two long arm systems in the shop, so if you have tops that need edge to edge quilting, do call for pricing and lead times. I would take a close look at the quilting on the samples. For instance, there is a giraffe quilt that is quilted with giraffes. There is a sample of it below, and it’s not the only one with themed stitching.
Samples are displayed throughout the store, with patterns for all and kits for many. The kit selection is wonderful, and many include backing and binding – which saves taking your finished top on a safari while you hunt for a back to match! Of course, you do miss the fun of showing off the flimsy, but you can easily show off the finished quilt. Stop in for Open Sew on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday and enjoy the fellowship of other quilters. You can also get help with any pattern that is giving you problems.
I would plan to spend at least thirty to forty-five minutes here.
