Charmed Needles, LLC Ontario, Oregon

Located less than a mile from Interstate 84, this shop combines quilting, cross stitch, hand embroidery, and lace making. Owner Christina Barron is an Army Veteran, and also fosters cats, so do be aware there is a lovely collection of shop cats to admire along with the fabrics. I was good, none of them followed me out the door and into my camper van…

This started as a joint venture quilt shop and needlework shop. The quilter relocated, so Miss Christina bought out the quilt shop and added more fabrics over time, and will continue to do so as space and demand allow. Current stock is at least 600 bolts. There are solids and blenders, tone on tones, and large and small prints. Batiks are available, as are wide backings and a selection of woolens. For the needle crafter, there is a great selection of floss, and supplies for making Bobbin Lace. I couldn’t resist photographing the lace project in process; it will be lovely when completed but I am years from that kind of complexity!

Samples are hung around the shop, some of them pieced and some the printed “demo top” provided with the fabric line from the vendor. These are printed on fabric rather than pieced, but give a great idea of what the pattern sent with the fabric line will look like when completed. Do greet the cats if they are out of their cages (or even if they aren’t, unless the covers are on – some are rather shy).

I would plan twenty to thirty minutes here, more if you get into a discussion on making Bobbin Lace!
