Located a short bus ride from the docks in Juneau, and quite close to the famous Mendenhall Glacier, this busy shop has been serving local and visiting quilters since 1998, but only the last two years in this location. Owner Jodie Buck oversees the action and answers questions, as do all of her staff members, all of whom either sew or quilt.
There is a wonderful selection of fabrics here, from Tula Pink to Kaffe Fassett to Charlie Harper, Anna Marie, Tim Holtz, and M&S Aboriginals. Backings include both cottons and flannels, and a selection of Cuddle in 90″ widths. There are solids and blenders, as well as large and small prints. Batiks are well represented, with a nice section of Alaskan prints. Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, and Bali Pops are also on hand. There ore over 2,000 bolts of quilting fabric, and in addition there are linens and corduroys for clothing. Don’t miss the great notions and buttons!
This garment is called a Kuspuk, a native Alaskan garment reproduced by local artist Jodie Buck, and is one of several of her patterns that are available. It is essentially a hooded jacket with a large front pocket and wonderful detailing. There are patterns and kits available – including one sized for the American Girl dolls. This is just one of the many samples on display. Kits for both quilts and pillow cases are also available. Patterns can be found for just about all of the kits, and you can always make up your own kit if you want to do so. The shop also carries Isacord threads, and is a dealer for Accuquilt Go systems and dies. There are also Laura Heine collage patterns available.
