This unique shop is less than half a mile off of Interstate A3 in the Eagle River Shopping Plaza. Originally opened by two sisters, it is now a mother/daughter shop run by Katy Su Lander-Pederson and Britney Wills, with help from several of Katy’s sisters. The shop has been serving the local area for the past seven years, and even trucker dad gets into the quilting game.
Fabrics here are generally solids and blenders, with large and small prints and batiks added in to keep things interesting. The shop carries around 500 bolts of fabric, and most of it is completely unique. Miss Katy specializes in what other shops don’t have. They also experiment with coloring and hand stitching, where the design is colored with crayon or colored pencils, painted to seal, and then stitched around to enhance the design. They were the first shop certified to teach Kimberbell in Alaska, so check out the patterns for both Kimberbell embroidery and quilts while you’re in the shop.
There are beautiful samples here, and classes for most of them. The Bug at the right is an example of the Color/Paint/Stitch method. The classroom is five doors down in another part of the shopping center. In addition to classes, the shop holds “Quilt Till You Wilt” retreats from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM for three days every other month. These sessions have a theme, like machine embroidery or Featherweights, so do please check online for more details.
Long arm quilting is available, done by one of the sisters. Please call the shop for pricing and lead times. I would plan between fifteen and thirty minutes here, more if you go and check out the classroom.
