Located less than ten miles from SK-1 (Trans Canada Highway), this shop opened in 1978 as the Northgate Sewing Center, a sewing machine sales and repair center. Peachtree Quilt Shop was added in 1997. Current owner Patrick King has owned the combined shops since 2019.
The Quilt Shop features over 6,000 bolts of fabric. Designers include Kaffe Fassett and a great collection of Northcott, including blenders, backings, and gradients. There is a great collection of blenders, solids, and tone on tones. Check out the seasonal room, with Christmas, fall, and other holidays represented. Batiks are well represented, as are large and small prints. Wide backings are available in regular cotton and flannels – it gets rather colder here than south in the states, so 108″ wide flannels are common backings. There is a set of shelves called the Peach Pit, where sale fabrics are displayed.
There are wonderful samples on display throughout the shop. These are available for sale when the fabric line sells out, and can be reserved if you see one you really like while you’re in the shop. Samples on display also have patterns and/or kits on hand.
Quilts of Valor (Canadian Style) also meets here monthly, so if you have an interest in this group do check out the calendar and join the team.
The Northgate Sewing Center is a licensed dealer for Pfaff and Janome home sewing machines, as well as a line of industrial machines by Reliable and Grace Long Arm Systems. In house repairs are available for most brands, so if your baby is ill do give them a call.
There are cards for local long arm professionals if you need to have your masterpiece finished. I would plan to spend at least thirty to forty-five minutes here.
