Take an old bar, add a lot of shelves, and keep all of the wonderful wood work, and you have a great quilt shop! Located just over two miles from US 22 next to the Susquehanna River, owner Katie Schreiber sells wonderful fabrics and great yarns. She is in the same building as the Newport Senior Center. She is trained as a nurse – but the quilt shop is much more fun, and is now her primary job.
I saw a new fabric line here that I had not seen before – Moda Canvas. It is a blender, but much more like the old Moda Marbles than the newer Grunge blender. Among the 600 plus bolts on hand there are also solids and other blenders, plus some beautiful batiks. Prints suitable for Stack-n-Whack are here, as well as smaller prints. Don’t miss the collection of Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, and Charm Packs. Bolt ends go on half bolts to save room, so keep an eye out for these. Also check out the woodwork, if you are a fan of this. Miss Katie kept the best of the bar while using space quite efficiently. There are some kits to check out, too.
Check out the samples – and the detail of the woodwork! The whole back of the bar is a giant mirror, but I did want to highlight the carving on the post top. There are samples hung throughout the shop, with the unique labeling system that says what pattern, or what book and page number, was the source for the sample, so if you like it, you can easily get the pattern to make your own. Long arm services are available, all free motion, so please call the shop for details if you have a top that needs to be completed.
Humble Stitch also carries a great selection of yarns, as well as patterns for knitting and crochet. If these crafts are on your playlist, do check out the stock while you’re visiting.
I would plan to spend at least twenty to forty minutes here to see everything.

Stop back on Monday to see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
The only thing you left out was the great line of hand embroidery supplies and kits she offers. Katie alone helped me get back into the craft. Her vast knowledge of all thread arts is second only to her kindness and patience. And also, even though the main entrance is right the busy Route 34, parking on 2nd street is a breeze. Thanks so much for this thorough review of one of my favorite LQS’s.
Always helpful to new inexperienced old knitters, no question is dumb. Wonderful selection of yarns and patterns. Local stories great shopping also ,,,,ice cream , deli, farmer’s market, gift shop.
What a great review on Humble Stitch! I get all my batting and lots of quilting fabric and supplies from Kaitlin. Also, check out all her shelves….Kaitlin probably made and refinished them. She is as handy with tools as she is with knitting needles and sewing machines.
