Since I was in the area, I slipped across the border from Pennsylvania to Maryland to check out this shop, and it was definitely worth the detour! Located just under two miles from Interstate 70, it’s a lovely detour on a cross country trip. Owner Jackie Bingham has been serving the local area for over 20 years. The building is a beautiful, large older home; turn into the driveway and there is plenty of parking out back. The entrance is also around back. Southbound, turn right after the sign; northbound, turn right before it.
Walking in, I immediately notices how bright and colorful this shop is. With over 5,000 bolts of fabrics in several rooms, you’ll find plenty of friends to follow you home. There are solids and blenders, tone on tones, and lots of panels. This is the first shop I visited that has a section of railroad related fabrics, so if you have a model railroader in the family, this is the place to get fabrics for their quilt. 30’s Reproduction fabrics are well represented, as are batiks and large and small prints. Check out the pet and wildlife fabrics – I found Corgis for my son’s quilt here. There is a whole section of panels, and a room with Christmas, Halloween, novelty, and children’s prints. There are books and patterns available to inspire you, and samples of bags and the patterns to make them.
The shop is a registered dealer for Bernina and Viking/Husqvarna machines. This gem is the new Bernina air threading serger, complete with a slots in the front cover to hold all of the tools it needs. There are also Floriani threads and Anita Goodesign patterns, so if you have an embroidery machine do plan to stock up. Check out the Horn cabinets for your sewing machine or serger.
Long arm services are available; please contact the shop directly for pricing and lead times.
Don’t miss a trip upstairs to the classroom. Tuesdays are Charity Quilt Days – this was going on when I visited, so I did not take pictures of the many samples on display in the classroom. I never want to accidentally get people in pictures, so I don’t ever take pictures when the classroom is in use. In addition to making charity quilts, this shop hosts Project Linus and Quilts of Valor. Classes for all skill levels are available and listed on the website, or you can sign up to receive the newsletter via email. There are also at least two Block of the Month groups running, one a Deb Tucker and one an Illusions Sampler. Please contact the shop for more information on these. Plan to spend at least forty-five minutes to an hour here to see everything.

Stop back on Monday to see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
So glad you stopped in at this shop. It is one of my favorites in the Maryland area. If you every get the chance to visit the Harrisonburg VA area there are a couple of very nice shops there and you would enjoy visiting the Virginia Quilt Museum at 301 S. Main Street, Harrisonburg VA. It is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm. Enjoy the rest of your trip and thank you sharing your adventures.
This quilt shop is my happy place. I love their sit and sew Fridays. Plus, impressed with their donated fabric area for making charity quilts.
Thank you for stopping at The Quilting Barn today. Looking forward to your post about the shop. Mondays is dedicated to working on charity quilts and Wednesdays and drop-in days when quilters can bring a project they have difficulty with – our employees can help that person get over that hump in order to bring the project to completion.
