This shop and Retreat Center complex is located just about two miles from Interstate 74 / Interstate 55 (they run together here). It is the sister shop to Peace & Applique Quilt shop in Rochester, Illinois, that I visited December 30, 2019 – way back before Covid! Owner Gretchen Quistgaard owns both shops, as well as the Retreat Center on the grounds at this location.
There was a group in residence when I visited, so I did not get a chance to tour the center – but the ladies from the retreat that were shopping assured me it is wonderful! Please call the shop for more information.
There is a wonderful selection of fabrics here, including Grunge in plain and dots, solids and blenders in a color wall, and tone on tones. I also saw batiks and large and small prints. With over 6,000 bolts on hand in this location, your will be sure to find something that needs to come home with you! There is both cotton that looks like cork, and actual cork fabric. M & S Aboriginal fabrics from Australia are available in abundance. This is the brand I like because it both acknowledges the designer on the selvage and publishes the meaning of the symbology on the fabrics. Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett are present, and 60″ wide cuddle fabrics are here as well. There is also a nice selection of patriotic fabrics, and a lot of wide backs. Flannel, Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, Fat Quarter packs, and panels are also on hand. Patterns include quilts, bags, and clothing.
Check out this tote bag! It is another example of the pattern for a tote bag made with panels, and this one is stunning! Beach bag, anyone? Note the bolt of panels on the shelf next to the bag. It is just one of the many samples on display in the shop, so check them all out when you visit. There are also Laura Heine Collage patterns, and a nice selection of kits. Quilting classes are also back in session, so do check the website for what is available if you are going to be in the area for awhile.
The shop is a registered Bernina Dealer, as well as handling repairs for all brands. This machine is the Diamond Edition, and she is sure pretty! Check it out when you’re visiting… Long Arm Rental is also available after a training class, so you can learn to finish your own quilts.
Please plan to be in the shop for at least thirty to forty-five minutes to see everything.
