This unique shop is a fabric store inside a general store. I passed the sign between two other shops, and doubled back to check it out. It is a true old time general store – everything from canning supplies to clothing fabric to quilting fabric. Owned by Grace Weaver, don’t be surprised to see one of her older children running the shop while she tends to the younger ones in the house next door to the shop. The real plus for me was Ball canning lids, since they didn’t seem to make any last year, and I was completely out!
About the fabric – there are by my count around 1,000 bolts of fabric here, about half poly cotton dress goods and prints and half 100% cottons. There are large and small prints, and a few solids. There is also a great selection of wildlife prints, so if you are looking for fabric for a quilt for a gentleman in your life, this is a great stop. This shop is on a working farm, so there are not samples on display – the quilts made are for on the beds and keeping warm! There is also a small selection of fleece and some wide backings, as well as width of fabric and pillow panels – which of course can also be used in quilts! The fish are a pillow panel, but I’m betting they would Stack-n-Whack really well. There are also patterns and a few books. I enjoyed looking at other items in the shop as well, from tools to the canning lids I already mentioned.
Across the way in the basement of the house, you will find the – you guessed it – Bargain Basement. This is a collection of dress goods and cottons at wonderfully reasonable prices, and well worth the look to see if anything matches your needs. This is a really interesting shop, and I would plan to spend 15 to 20 minutes here; longer if you are a tool nut as I am!
