This family owned shop is located just under a mile from Interstate 40. Owners James and Linda Smith are in the process of selling the shop to daughter Kerri McDaniel, who has been working in the shop for years, so it is staying in the family. It is a full service sewing machine shop and quilt shop, and a great place to gather for classes or just to get fabric and see all of the machines and notions available.
Speaking of fabric, the shop carries at least 2,500 bolts at all times. There is Grunge in dots, plain, and sparkle. Remember that Grunge is designed to be a solid on the back, so either side is acceptable for use. There are also solids and blenders, tone on tone, and some wonderful large prints for larges scale quilts or Stack-N-Whack. Small prints are also on hand, as are jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charm Packs. Fat quarters are here, as well as wide backings and 60″ Minkyl. Kimberbell patterns for your embroidery system and Aurifil threads are also in stock.
Sew Carefree carries Accuquilt Go systems and dies. The quilt at the right was made with the Cleopatra’s Fan die, and it is stunning in person. It is just one of the many samples of display, and most of them also have kits available. Patterns are also on hand, so you can always choose your own fabrics to match your decor. Block of the Month Clubs and classes are running, so please check the website for classes and times. The local Quilt Guild meets at the shop on the third Thursday of the month during the day. There is another guild that meets elsewhere in the evening, so this is clearly a quilting area!
The shop is a registered dealer for Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff, and Baby Lock machines, so if you are in the market or just want to be tempted, plan some time to look while you’re here.
