Located less than two miles from Interstate 75, this shop looks small from the street – but it is deep! Owner Becky Terrell and her staff are all experts in some area of quilting, from English Paper Pieces to Block of the Month to Long Arm techniques. Miss Becky does a Facebook Live class and “What’s New” every Wednesday; please check the website for times. “What’s New” is also on the website.
There are over 3,000 bolts of fabric here, including the full collection of Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, Charlie Harper by Birch, and Tim Holtz. There are solids., blenders, and Tone on Tones in both white and black, plain Grunge, and a great selection of batiks. Large and small prints, including some great Stack-n-Whack candidates, are here. There is also wool, for those of you who can touch it without itching (I can’t, but I love the wool quilt blocks!) Miss Ricklie, one of the staff and the English Paper Piecing expert, was happy to give me a tour of the shop, as she does for all newcomers. It was quite useful, as there are rooms and nooks of fabric everywhere. There are Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, slices of cake (one 10 x 10 block), Charm Packs, and Fat Quarter Bundles. Fabrics are sorted by line or color, and there is a Sale Nook – which can be quite dangerous to your budget! The Holiday section that includes Christmas and Fall fabrics. Don’t miss the great selection of patterns and kits, 60″ Minky and Bark Cloth, and wide backs.
The shop also carries cards by local artists Rebecca Barker and Jody Houghton, and locally made seam rippers and stilettos. There is a wall of toys and tools right inside the door, including a light table for fussy cutting complete with a clear mat.
Samples are hung wherever there is space, behind the front counter, above shelves, and sometimes on the ends of shelf units, so do pay attention while you are walking around the shop so you don’t miss anything. Some have kits, and there are patterns for them as well. Feel free to get the pattern and build your own kit, with or without help from the staff.
Long Arm services are available in house, as the shop is a dealer for Handi Quilter. If you don’t have space for your own machine, you can take the Long Arm 101 Class and then rent time on the machine at the shop. I did this for several years before I bought my long arm; it is a lot of fun and saves waiting to have your masterpiece finished.
Plan to be here for at least thirty to forty-five minutes, longer if you get lost in the shelf after shelf of Kaffe. His fabrics beg to be Stack-n-Whacks!
