Located just 12 miles from Interstate 71, this is one of the most eclectic shops I have visited. Proprietor Terry Owen served in the Peace Corps as a young adult, and the concern for the lives of the makers of the items she sells has carried throughout her life.
Fabrics carried are checked not only for price and availability, but for how the designers and manufacturers are treated prior to the sale. An effort is made to support women owned businesses.
You will find over 1,000 bolts of fabrics here. Fabrics come from companies with good solid social consciences. For example, the shop carries M & S Aboriginal fabrics not only because they are beautiful, but also because designer’s name is printed on the selvage. Quilting fabrics include solids, tone on tones, and blenders, as well as some of the most unique prints I have found anywhere. Fabrics are loosely grouped by group or producer. There are African Brocades that are simply gorgeous, as well as Turtle Batiks. Other fabrics include silks, wool, linens, and knits. There are US made fabrics available, and you can make quilts, clothing, or any other project you desire.
Silk Road carries a great selection of yarns, from wool to alpaca to blends. Yarns come from farms and manufacturers who treat the source animals humanely throughout their lives. If you knit, weave, or crochet, or any other yarn arts, you must stop in here! The shop also sells yarn winders, made locally, to convert your hank to a pull out skein.
Don’t miss the samples throughout the shop. Pay particular attention to the collection of Hmong embroidered story clothes – they are in several sizes and come from Peace Love Hmong. There are samples of bags and totes, as well as quilts and felted projects.
Buttons are also available, in about any size or shape you might need.
This shop is a source for classes for any fiber art you can imagine, whether clothing, quilting, bags, accessories, felting, weaving, embroidery,or spinning. If you want to learn to do it, they will find someone to teach you, and the staff has over 200 years of combined experience in various fiber crafts. There are also kits available for various arts, and there is a wonderful knitting and reading corner in the shop, so you can work with friends and get assistance if you need it. Plan to spend at least thirty to forty-five minutes here.

Stop back on Monday and see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
Hi Jean,
Thank you so much for the wonderful, informative, and supportive article about Silk Road Textiles. Your photos are great too!
I am so happy you stopped by on your journey! I really enjoyed seeing your mini home away from home as well. You are quite the inspiring traveler!
We love your mission to see “all” the shops and appreciate your visit. Hope to see you again sometime soon.
Thanks so much,
Terry and the SRT Tribe
While a resident of Cincinnati, Silk Road Textiles was my favorite fabric store. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the helpful and knowledgeable staff and always purchased more than intended because of the unique, quality fabrics and gift items. It’s a welcome addition to the other great businesses on that block of Hamilton Avenue.
Congratulations on your inclusion in the North American Shop Hop!
