Amish Quilts & Fabrics Leetonia, Ohio

Located just off of Route 11, this delightful shop is a great find.  Owner Naomi Shaum has been fighting an illness, so her daughters are currently running the shop as many hours as they can in addition to their own responsibilities.  Please give the shop a call before making a trip, just to be sure they are open or can meet you there.  This will hopefully improve soon; prayers to that effect are appreciated.

There is a unique selection of fabric here, around 500 bolts for quilting and another 200 or so for clothing.  This is clearly both a quilt shop and a gift shop.  Fabrics include solids and wonderful small prints for quilting. I saw some wonderful calicos, and also flannel and cuddle.  Bolts are generally stored on their sides rather than standing on end, making it much easier to lay fabric across the bolt for color matching. There is a selection of wide backs as well. For the hand quilter, there is a nice collection of quilting stencils, which can be hard to find these days. Embroidery floss is well represented, useful for both embroidery and tying quilts.

There is a rack of completed and hand quilted quilts for sale here – not too surprising given the name of the shop!  There are also quilted wall decorations on display. There are also crocheted doilies from Haiti, knitted sweaters from toddler to adult sizes from Guatemala, and local crafts like wood shelves, plaques, and painted hand saws and circular saw blades.

Do plan to spend at least 20 to 30 minutes exploring what is available here.  There are crocheted Afghans, notions, and a great collection of buttons in drawers by color.  These can be great fun for embellishment or clothing. All in all, it is a great shop to wander through, pick up a few gifts, get ideas for your next project, and the material for it as well!
