I’m continuing east on US Route 2, stopping at shops I find along the way. This shop, owned by Susan Gilman, is across Highway 93 from Costco and very easy to find. The first thing I noticed when entering was the large number of Judy Niemeyer quilts on display. Upon inquiry, it’s not surprising – this is her home shop! There are not only quilts and patterns, but a collection of her fabrics as well.
Speaking of fabrics – there are over 8,000 bolts on hand here, so plan some time to wander. There are solids and small prints and blenders and large prints. Batik is well represented, as is Grunge in plain and dots. Judy Niemeyer fabrics are here, as are Kimberbell fabrics and patterns. Christmas, Halloween, and children’s fabrics all have their own sections. There are panels and flannels. Pre-cuts include Jelly Rolls and Tonga Treats, Charm Packs, Candies (2.5″ squares), Layer Cakes, and a great selection of kits. The shop has two certified Quiltworx instructors and is a Quiltworx certified shop, so if you want to learn how to make Judy Niemeyer’s gorgeous creations, this is a great place to do it.
I mentioned samples and kits. This blue and white laser cut panel is part of a kit, and was being demonstrated while I was in the shop. The photo truly does not do it justice. It is beautifully detailed, and would make a wonderful wall hanging or the center panel for a full sized quilt. Then, of course, there are Judy Niemeyer samples, and many others. The shop sells completed quilts, as well as table runners and place mats, so if you need a gift while you’re traveling do check these out.

If you are shopping with children, there is a kids play corner in the shop to help to keep them entertained while you and your friends take turns shopping. I would plan to spend at least 30 to 45 minutes here; I was in the store almost two hours…
