Located in the 1912 Larabie Bank Building and only two miles from Interstate 90, this fascinating shop is a mix of modern quilting and historical building. Owned by Gwynne Bossert, the shop has been serving the local community since July of 1999. The town also hosts the Old Montana Prison and Auto Museum, so if you are traveling with non-quilters, feel free to send them to “prison” while you shop.
This shop specializes in custom kits, as well as having about 4,000 fat quarters on hand cut and ready to go at any given time. Add to that over 1,500 bolts of fabric, and you have some real potential to spend an afternoon here. I’d allow at least thirty to forty-five minutes. Fabrics include solids, blenders, tone on tones, and Grunge. There are also some wonderful prints, both large and small. Batiks include Hoffman, Tonga, Island Batiks, and Majestic Batiks, and they are gorgeous. There is also a wonderful collection of flannels. Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, and Bali Pops are also on hand.
This building used to be a bank, and in the style of the early 1900’s, it is two stories inside with a narrow staircase to the mezzanine. Beautiful wood trim has been preserved, as have the marble stairs and wrought iron railings. Take some time to read the plaque on the outside of the building describing it’s history as a bank. The height allows dozens of samples to be displayed, so do take the time to admire them as well. Some have kits and most have patterns, so enjoy!
These wonderful “Button Quilt” wall hangings are designed by employee Theresa Cameron, and there are kits and patterns available. They are beautifully detailed and a lot of fun. I see them as wonderful gifts, either as a kit for quilting friends, or assembled for non-quilters. Perhaps they could get a friend started on quilting?
The shop purchased a long arm system to finish their samples, and have since extended that to finishing quilts for customers. Please call for details, lead times, and pricing. There is also a connected Retreat Center, called Mountain View Retreat. Please call 406-846-1521 for more information.
