We are back on the Highway 36 Quilt Trail, a Shop Hop in Missouri that runs from April to October. As you may recall, I visited half of these shops on my way west to see my mother in Washington. I am visiting the rest on my home to Ohio.
Located just 20 miles from Highway 36, and owned by Donna Harrison, this unique shop has a great selection of samples, completed quilts, and wonderful fabric for sale.
Let’s begin with the samples. There are plenty to choose from , and most come with patterns and kits. You can, of course, get the pattern and choose your own fabrics. I find I rarely buy a kit, as I have a rather eclectic color palette, but many folks prefer kits, and if I could have afforded them when I started quilting, I might prefer them as well. Either method makes a beautiful quilt, so do go with what you are most comfortable doing. I did enjoy how the quilts are hung, between two arms of the display, so you can see the entire quilt rather like opening a book. Many of the ones hung this way are completed quilts and are for sale. The blue squares, below center, are stunning in person, and built around a panel.
Then we get to the fabric. There are a lot of panels to choose from, and the sample quilts give you great ideas as to what to do with them. There are also over 2,500 bolts of fabric to look through, ranging from batiks to solids to blenders. Add to that both large and small prints, and you have the potential to spend a long time figuring out how much of what fabric has to follow you home. I picked up a great Stack-n-Whack print on sale – here comes another One Block Wonder! Also check out the yellow roses in the Star Quilt above – some of those followed me home as well, since yellow roses are my favorite flower.
There are also kits for sale, as well as a great selection of Stonehenge in blenders and ombre. A great selection of wide backs to complete your project are available as well as a selection of precuts.
The shop offers Long Arm Services, and sells both Elna and Handi Quilter machines. You may notice there is no machine on the rails – it was out for routine maintenance while I was visiting, and this quilt is ready to go as soon as it comes back. Please call the shop for pricing and lead times to have your masterpiece quilted.
Plan to spend at least thirty minutes to an hour here.
