I left Interstate 5 and headed cross country toward family in Nevada, and found this shop along the way. It is about a mile from California 36, after a pleasant drive through the California countryside. The shop, owned by Laura Roberts, started in 2008 on the back of a garage on the property, then took over the garage. In 2016, it moved into the outbuilding where it is now. It does help to own the farm!
The shop also hosts a retreat center, Camp Quiltalot – call for details! The shop is also a drop off point for Ryan’s Case for Smiles, providing whimsical pillow cases for children in hospital settings for serious illnesses.
With over 10,000 bolts of fabric, this is a must stop if you are anywhere close. There is Stonehenge, over 200 bolts of Australian Aboriginals, Kaffe Fassett, Phillip Jacobs, Tula Pink, Garden Patch, and Grunge in plain colors, to name a few of the designers carried here. Solids, tone on tone, and blenders are also present. There is yarn dyed flannel. The shop is organized in sections – Orientals, color walls, landscape components, Western themed, Civil War and Museum reproductions, border prints, and infant and children’s prints. Add to that sections for holidays – Christmas, Fall and Halloween, and a section of patriotic prints. Don’t miss the selection of panels, Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes! There are also batiks to enjoy, and a wonderful collection of wide backs. Also check out the Sale Corner…
Samples are displayed throughout the shop, including this collection of Row by Row (now Quilter’s Trek) offerings. Kits are available for these and other samples. There is also a wall of kits from which to choose that don’t have samples made, but don’t let that slow you down! Any questions you may have will be cheerfully answered and details explained.
Country Pines also sells online, with an inventory system that updates every 15 minutes to keep the amount available as current as possible. Classes are normally taught by Miss Laura’s sister, but they were still on hold when I was visiting. Please contact the shop to see if they have resumed yet, and if so what is scheduled.
Plan to spend at least forty-five minutes here. I spent well over an hour, and I’m relatively sure I missed some of the fabric. The hardest part was staying within my budget – there is just so much wonderful fabric here to tempt you!
