Located less than two miles from Interstate 5, this delightful shop has been owned by the Weston family and in the same location since 1968. It was started by the current owner, Michaela (Mickey) Weston’s mother. It was in the process of being painted outside when I was in, so I only took a picture of the front door. There are normally signs above the door… If you are anywhere near Mt. Shasta, you need to stop and see this shop. I watched the mountain (elevation 14,179 feet) grow as I drove south on I5 – it is only nine miles from the city, and it is beautiful.
Miss Mickey has dedicated all of her space to fabric and samples. There are no sewing machines or long arm services available in house, but she does have business cards for local providers of these services. Speaking of fabric, there are over 1,000 bolts on hand, predominantly quilting fabrics, with a selection of clothing fabric available as well. Quilting fabrics range from Australian Aboriginal prints to Kaffe Fassett to wool. There are solids and blenders, including tone on tones and Grunge in both solids and dots. Don’t miss the selection of batiks, and wide backings are in stock to finish your project. Panels of several types are also featured, and there are Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, and Charm Packs, too. There is a wall of ribbons and trims for both clothing and quilt embellishment.
Samples are hung throughout the shop, several made from panels, so if you’s struggled with what to do with a panel, stop in and look around. Quilt patterns and kits are available, as well as patterns and kits for the panel quilts. You can also buy the pattern and a panel of your choice and create your own kit from the pattern. Check out the collection of lace collars, wonderful for dressing up a sweater or the infamous little black dress. They really help with packing space on things like a cruise!
For the knitters in the crowd, check out the yarn selection! Weights from socks to sweaters, lots of colors, and plenty of fibers to choose from before you leave.
Plan to be here for at least twenty to thirty minutes.
