Knotty Stitches Castle Rock, Washington

As I continued south out of Seattle on Interstate 5, I found this delightful shop in Castle Rock. Owned by Jana Gann, it is a blend of her original yarn shop, The Knotty Hooker, and a quilt shop she purchased in 2017 called The Quilt Nest. As of this writing, Google still lists both names – at the same address. It is located less than two miles from the interstate and a wonderful break from driving. If you are planning to visit Mt. Saint Helens, stop here along the way.

There is obviously yarn here, but alas, I am not a knitter, so I focused on the 1,200 bolts of quilting fabric. There are some wonderful big prints, as well as smaller prints. Add to that solids, blenders, and tone on tones. There is also a nice selection of batiks. I love the look of black and white prints with a pop of a bright color that reads as a solid, and there is a shelf of those to tempt you. There are also fossil ferns and wide backs, some in great prints. Quilt kits are available, as well as Scrap Bags, Jelly Rolls, and 1/2 yard cuts. Don’t miss the panels!

A long arm system was added two years ago, so if you have a top you’ve finished and need to have quilted, please call for pricing and lead times. There are also samples hung around the shop for you enjoyment and inspiration. I spent quite some time admiring the hexagonal Crazy Quilt – I had never seen one done in hexes before, and the workmanship is lovely. If you want something less complex, the Ivory Towers are just plain fun! I might try black and white prints with red, blue, and purple towers. I did get the pattern!

Yarns are available in wool, acrylics, and alpaca. Some are independent small batch hand dyes, so be sure you get enough for your project while you are in the shop.

Plan to be in the shop for twenty to thirty minutes, longer if you are shopping for both fabric and yarn.
