Sew Crazy Columbus, Indiana

Continuing the loop through Indiana, I found this shop in Columbus. It is just about 25 miles from Interstate 74, and about 30 minutes from our last stop in Greensburg, Indiana. Owners Angie and Tim Behrman bought the coolest building in the area, and it suits them perfectly! It was designed and built by the contractor that used to have his business there, and it is worth the stop for both the fabrics and the building.

Tim and Angie purchased the business in July of 2018, but they outgrew their first space and moved to this location – over twice the size of the first one – within the first two years. Stocking over 1,000 bolts of fabric, they became a mask making hub during the COVID shutdown, producing over 4,000 masks, and donating over 12,000 yards of elastic. Local folks picked up kits and dropped off completed masks, which were provided as needed to businesses and people in the community. Miss Angie kept the community quilting with videos on YouTube, as well as Facebook groups. She hosts a Kimberbell Club on Facebook, generally the first and third Thursday of the month (please call and check, this does change occasionally) that is a mini class and then the second meeting works on bench pillows. They are beautiful! Fabrics available include novelties, solids and blenders, Grunge, tone on tone, and some cottons that look like cork! There are also some great prints, and a selection of batiks.

Don’t miss the samples hung throughout the shop. There are also patterns and kits available. While you’re in the store, ask about the Quilts for Kids program. Panels are also on display, and very well organized so you can find your favorite quickly. There is an in house event coming the end of April, where they clear out space in the shop and hold an indoor “Garage Sale” for Sewers, Crafters, and Quilters, called “Spring Clean – Spring Fling.” Please call for more information, if you’d like to be a vendor, or show up to shop for bargains.

The shop is a registered Viking and Pfaff dealer. Mr. Tim does the Viking repairs for machines purchased here and elsewhere, and is working on being certified for Pfaff as well. If you are looking for a new or upgraded machine, be sure to check these out while you’re visiting. There is also a great selection of embroidery threads, that covers almost a full wall in one room. Plan to be here 30 to 40 minutes.
