Owned by Bonnie Sample, this wonderful shop is located just 40 miles south of Interstate 70, and is the second shop on my detour loop through Indiana on the way to Illinois. This shop has been serving the community in this location for the last 10 years, and is a location for drop off and pick up for long arm services. The shop chose to carry more fabric rather than having this service in house.
There are over 1,000 bolts of fabric to enjoy here, starting with tone on tones in white and ivory, and moving on to batiks, solids and blenders, and some really nice prints. There are Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, and Charm Packs, many in matching fabrics. Check out the Holiday Room, filled with Christmas, Fall, and Halloween fabrics. One shelf unit is dedicated to patriotic prints. Batting is available in cotton, wool, and blends. Then there are the panels and kits to look through…
So why, if the shop is in Greensburg, is it called Tree City Stitches? I asked, and was led to the door to look across the street to the courthouse spire. There is a tree growing through the roof, and has been since the 1800’s. It has been removed, multiple times, but always grows back. Now it is simply pruned every year and left in place, and has become the landmark of the town.
There are samples throughout the shop, including this one that was made to celebrate the store opening in this location. Note the tree growing from the spire! Most samples have patterns and kits. Don’t miss the Bird Blocks! These were designed in house as a collaboration between one staff member’s photography skills and another’s applique skills. They are shown as wall hangings, but I can also see them as a wonderful quilt! These six are just a sample of the ones available. There is a nice selection of other patterns available to tempt you as well. Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here.
