Hen Feathers Quilt Shop Wichita, Kansas

Located just two and a half miles from Interstate 35 / Kansas Turnpike, this shop is a great place to take a break from driving and stretch your legs as you look at all of the fabric. Owned by Peggy Engel, the shop has been serving Wichita since 2002, and doing a fine job of it, according to her customers.

In addition to themed fabric representing local schools like Kansas State, University of Kansas, and Wichita State, there is a wide selection of grunge in both solids and dots. Add to that calicos, Cuddle by Shannon, holiday prints, and at least 200 bolts of solids and blenders. There is a full shelf of tone on tones. Then there is a collection of Kaffe Fassett and a host of other prints, not to mention wide backings. All together the shop carries over 3,000 bolts of fabric. Don’t miss the precuts – Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes are available, as well as fat quarter bundles.

Samples are hung throughout the shop, both on walls and on the ends of shelf units. Patterns and kits are available for most of these, with the option of selecting your own fabrics if you so choose. I checked the website this evening – if you want this kit act fast! There are only two left… but there is a lot of KC Chiefs fabric available!

For the embroidery enthusiast, there are patterns and threads to tempt you. Finished sample quilts, wall hangings, and table runners are sold when no longer needed for displays (classes are over, kits are gone, or fabric line has sold out), so be sure to check the store or watch the website for what is available, as it changes often. Plan to be here for 30 to forty minutes.
