If you are in the Flagstaff area, stop in and see this wonderful quilt shop. It was originally purchased by Harvey and June Odegaard from Singer in the early 60s, and is currently co-owned by son Van Odegaard and grandson Charlie Odegaard. Located just over two miles from Interstate 40, it is a great stop either before or after the Grand Canyon.
There is a lot of fabric here, for both quilting and clothing. There are over 1,200 bolts of quilt fabric, ranging from color sorted solids and blenders to tone on tones and a lot of wonderful prints. Grunge and Kaffe Fassett are well represented, and there are over 130 different panels. Note the bins on top of the shelves in the pictures below – these are all panels, and they cover the top of just about every shelf of quilting fabric. A picture of the panel is on the end of the bin, so you can see what the full panel looks like without having to unfold it. There is also a great selection of fat quarter bundles, Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, and Layer Cakes, from Wilmington, Free Spirit, and Northcott. Don’t miss the southwestern prints in both cotton and fleece. Clothing fabrics range from cottons and polyesters up to velvets – not that the velvet wouldn’t make a wonderful crazy quilt!
Odegaard’s is also a major sewing machine source, carrying Baby Lock, Brother, Bernina, Handi Quilter, Janome, Juki, Pfaff, and Viking machines. Repairs are available in house. In addition to machines, they carry a line of sewing chairs covered in wonderful prints like buttons and sewing supplies. I tried one out; it was quite comfortable and they do ship. They also maintain a list in house and online of local folks who do longarm quilting and sew for others.
Look until you find the feeding trough filled with rolls of batting – clever and easily accessed. There are also samples hung on every wall, with patterns and kits available for most of them. I spent over an hour here; I would allow at least thirty to forty minutes. There is a recliner with an ottoman available for any non-quilting member of your group.
