As promised, I went west! What happens when a respiratory therapist and a neonatal ICU nurse take a quilt class together so they can have a shared hobby? A quilt shop is born! Ed and Jean Schlittenhart took a quilt class together when she started her Master’s program, and both have become expert quilters.
The shop was started as a retirement plan that grew. Located in Deer Park just 25 miles from Interstate 90, the shop had just moved to their new location when I visited and they were still settling in. There are at least 2,500 bolts of fabric here, ranging from prints and panels to corks, batiks, fossil ferns, Cuddle, Minky, and some wool. I enjoyed the selection of tone on tone – great for blending and neutrals, as well as offsetting the deeper colored prints. Flannels are available, as well as some great Stack-n-Whack options and a wall of patterns to choose from if you wish.
I noticed over 25 different patterns for bags and totes. Mr. Ed laughed and said his wife is the original bag lady! I suppose it comes with the teaching profession; most teachers I know have a collection. Either way, be sure to check these out. They come in all sizes and shapes, and there are samples of many of them. These are not the only samples to be seen, so keep a lookout as you tour the shop.
There are two long arm systems in the front room as you enter the store. Ed is the main operator, so stop in or call and arrange to have your latest top finished.
Plan to be here for 20 to 30 minutes.
