Just about three miles from Interstate 81 and five miles from the shores of Lake Ontario is an old convenience and grocery store that has been converted into a quilt shop. Owned by Diane and Greg Lake and daughters Anna Lake Blount and Sara Lake McNitt, this shop has been providing fabric, long arm services, and quilting expertise in the area since May of 2013.
Let’s start with the fabric. There are over 4,000 bolts in house, with over 100 different wide backings. There is also Kaffe Fassett, Free Spirit Fabrics, bright colors, solids, blenders, prints in all sizes, and batiks. Fossil Ferns, Tula Pink, and a wide selection of Christmas, Fall, and Halloween fabrics round out the collection. There are plenty of patterns to choose from, and there are kits if you prefer that method. The staff will help you to create a kit in your own style for any pattern you find if you are not completely comfortable with making your own fabric choices. It took me several years to get confident in my color matches, and I still tend to check them out with staff or another customer, so don’t feel shy about asking for help!
Long arm services are offered in house, with the machine being run by Greg most of the time. The shop completed over 650 customer quilts last year. He and his daughter also handle in house sewing machine repairs.
Upstairs is a retreat center added about six years ago. It can handle a maximum of ten guests in its five bedrooms, and has a separate entrance. Dining and living room facilities, as well as the shop’s classroom, are available to retreaters.
Two things you must not miss: The samples on the walls, and the shop mascot. This pup will greet you at the door, and is not at all unwilling to provide a “puppy fix” if you are traveling without your fur baby. Plan for 30 to 45 minutes in this shop.

Thank you so much. This is really a super nice article.
My all time favorite quilt shop!!! Super selection of fabrics, great family, and a retreat space all in one place!
Love The Old Creamery! However, planning to spend 30 to 45 minutes is for those of us who visit at least twice a month. If this is your first visit, or if you haven’t been in a while, plan on spending an hour or two!
Love this shop. The Lake family is the best. They go out of there way for their customers.
A great shop that is very accommodating. They are so helpful and have an awesome variety of fabrics. I have attended retreats there and can’t wait to do so again. Darn Covid! They do take all precautions and will answer any questions and offer advice when requested.

This is an awesome shop. I love shopping there and talking to Diane and Greg and Sarah when she is there. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. The selection of fabrics is fantastic and I have never left there without finding what I was looking for and definitely things I didn’t know I was looking for but had to have. I would recommend The Creamery to anyone looking for a beautiful quilt shop.
What a great article! This shop is wonderful, and is run by super friendly and helpful people. It is a comfortable, non-intimidating shop. Love it ????
This is my absolute favorite quilt shop! Fabric, long arming and machine maintenance all in one place. The Lakes are wonderful.
LOVE LOVE this place. I’ve done three retreats here and getting ready for another. Great people.
Great shop, fabulous owners, love retreats here. Everything a Quilter needs is here and then some.
I am so happy to have a shop where I can take my quilts and feel like I’m consulting with a friend. They made great choices for me while they were closed and continue to guide me in my quilting patterns. Nice to have a machine man!
Do you work in sergers as well as sewing machines?
