An easy 10 mile drive from Interstate 295 will take you to this wonderful shop in Chelsea, Maine, slightly southeast of Augusta. Owned by Roxy Getchell, Kevin McMurray, and Stacie Knowles, the shop combines quilting expertise, sewing machine sales and service, and long arm quilting services under one roof.
Fabrics are bright and cheerful, and there are over 2,000 bolts to look through for something that just MUST follow you home. There are fat quarters, wide backs, and rayon batiks. In the cottons, there are a lot of tone on tone prints for neutrals to offset the brights, bright solids, Kaffe Fassett, batiks, gingham, and micro prints. I ended up with over a dozen fabric pictures – hard to choose just four!
There are plenty of samples and patterns to tempt you. Be sure to look up! Many of the samples are up by the ceiling. This allows fabrics to take over the walls.
Mystic Maine Quilts is a Janome dealer, so make sure you check out the new machines while you are in the shop. In addition to the larger models, Janome makes a nice travel machine – my sister brings hers when she comes to visit, and it does a great job.
Be sure to greet Miss Bella when you arrive. She will be watching to make sure you get to the door safely, and is happy to have new faces in the shop. Plan to be here at least 30 to 40 minutes.
