Located about 12 miles from Interstate 80, this shop is worth the detour. Owned by and inside Sauder Village, you do not need to pay admission to the village – simply stop at the Welcome Center and ask for a Shopper’s Pass. If the center is closed, drive around the back of the Welcome Center and look for signs to the shop.
The shop is open longer hours than the village at this time, and they were painting and had taken the signs down when I was there – so the picture is from their brochure instead of my usual picture of the shop sign. The Spring Quilt Show normally opens the village, but with COVID all of that is different this year.
Once you are in the shop, go on a treasure hunt for the “lampshades” made from fat quarters – they re adorable! On your way, check out all of fabric – over 3,500 bolts including prints, solids, blenders, flannel, grunge in plain and with stars, 1930’s Reproduction Prints, and Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls, and Charm Packs.
There is also a great selection of quilt kits, if you’re looking for something you can pick up and start right away, without having to pick your own fabric. Then there is a Clearance Corner that is, quite frankly, dangerous! So much fabric to choose from at great prices!
If you are looking for inspiration, there are samples throughout the shop, and generally kits and patterns to go with them. Feel free to do your own thing with fabrics if the kit doesn’t suit your taste or decor. The staff will happily help with color matching if you need them to do so.
Plan to be here for 30 to 45 minutes, longer if you are dropping off a top for edge to edge quilting and need to find a backing.
