This wonderful shop is just 43 miles northwest of Toledo, Ohio, in southern Michigan. Owned by Kathy Seal, it is located on the second floor in a mini mall. If those steps look like a cliff to you, don’t worry – there is an elevator! This is her third and largest location since 1997.
With over 7,000 bolts of fabric to see, this shop took some time to go through. Fabrics range from batiks, blenders, and solids to flannel and 30’s Reproduction. There is a great selection of prints (think Stack-n-Whack) as well several shelves of kid friendly prints. The store is “sorted” by colors, so if you are looking for greens – they are all together!
There is a four sided shelving unit in the middle of the back area that has hundreds of fat quarters. If you have one of the dozens of fat quarter quilt books, this is definitely a store you want to check out. There are different colors on each side, and this shelf is huge.
This alcove is the wool cabinet. There are dozens of colors and sizes, and plenty of samples and kits to tempt you. If you haven’t tried wool yet, this might be the time and place! I love the look but have to choose between handling wool and breathing, but I enjoy looking at the finished pieces.
Do you enjoy making bags? These come with patterns and assistance if you need it, and make great gifts. Start getting ready for Christmas now; it’s July already! That trunk off to the right is full of scrap bags, left from quilts made in the shop. If you applique or make string quilts, pick up a couple to play with in you spare time.
While you are there, don’t miss this sampler by the window in the corner. It is one of dozens of samples on display around the store, and may are made in a different color way than the pattern picture, so you can see how the pattern would look with different fabrics. There is also a 30 seat classroom, and a whole collection of how to videos accessible from the website. Check out the Stack-N-Whack made with a border print below.
Plan to spend 45 minutes to an hour here, just to see all of the great fabrics and kits.
