Less than three miles from Interstate 75, this shop is a Quilt Shop and a whole lot more. Owner Frank Craft has also owned the Ben Franklin (formerly Woolworth’s) next door since 1976, and renamed it Ben’s a couple of years ago. There is a door through the wall to add everything there to The Busy Thimble. What you end up with is a quilt store and crafters paradise, all in one location.
On the fabric side, there are at least 2500 bolts to tempt you. There is a nice selection of homespun, which I don’t often see, as well as flannels and panels. Wool and wool kits are also featured, as well as a selection of fleece and felt. Quilting cottons include solids, blenders, and prints, and a nice variety of batiks.
There is an alcove filled with calicoes and children’s prints, with samples for inspiration. This panel is simply adorable, and would make a great quilt for a younger child.
The older store samples are for sale if you are looking for a completed quilt. Please check with the staff to see what is available, as the selection changes often.
If you cross craft to knitting or crocheting, there is a lovely selection of yarns. Painters and other crafters can go over to the Ben Franklin side of the store and find a wide selection of supplies so tempt them. I picked up some charcoals and a pad of paper for my grandson while I was in
The store also carries New Home Sewing machines. If you are in the market, check these out. They are a wonderful choice for a workhorse home machine.
Plan an hour here to allow you to enjoy the quilting and crafting supplies available, and then stop next door at For Keeps Gifts, and check that out as well.
