Located an easy three miles from Interstate 40, this shop is not only a fabric wonderland, but also the national distributor for iron on vinyl and foils. Owner Karen Rouse showed me how these work, and there are some real possibilities for fancy quilts, particularly with the glitter foils.
This machine comes with a lot of Disney shapes preloaded, and you can resize and then cut sections of the design in different colors for foil, vinyl, or fabric. The machine has the sections already defined, so you don’t have to try to pick out the “pieces” on your own. Miss Karen had a shirt with scattered Minnie Mouse silhouettes all over that she did in less than an hour – really cute. The website for the foils and vinyl is midsouthcraftingsupplies.com
Don’t let the foils put you off. This is definitely a fabric store! There are also over 1,500 bolts of fabric ranging from solids to blenders to prints. This shop has a great collection of prints, and as a person who does a lot of Stack-N-Whack, it was hard to get out with my budget intact!
Look for samples throughout the shop of traditional quilts, and quilts embellished with glitter vinyl. Although these don’t photograph well with my phone, but they are beautiful in person. The sand sparkles, and there is a pot of gold that looks amazing. Imagine a rainbow that glitters, or a sun that sparkles. The possibilities are endless.
Midsouth is a Brother Sewing Machine Dealer, so plan some time to look at machines while you are in the shop. They may yet tempt me to get an embroidery machine, but I’m not sure how long I could run it with the battery back-up in my micro camper. It would have to stay home. There is also repair service available in house, so if your machine is misbehaving, call or bring it in.
Do say hello to the store mascot while you are in. Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes at least here, longer if you want to look at what you can do with the vinyls and foils.
