Watch for the signs on the left as you head toward this shop. They are at every turn as you drive out in the country to find this wonderful shop. It is in a repurposed house on the property of a working farm, directly across from the entrance to Red Clay State Historic Park. Owner Lana Masengill has used every closet, cupboard, and room to display fabric!
This shop has over 3,500 bolts of fabric, and they are sorted into themes by room or closet – but the closet doors have all been removed for ease of access. There is a Christmas Closet, a Blender Room, a Brights and Kids Room, a Patriotic Closet, and even a Polka Dot Closet. There is a wall of batiks in the main room, and a slightly shorter wall of Grunge. There is also a 30’s reproduction and Civil War area, and a mix and match sale closet.
If you are looking for a backing, there are around 300 different wide backs to make it difficult, as they are all beautiful. There are some that “read” as solids, soft prints, and bold prints. Colors range from neutrals and pastels to deep rich jewel tones. Bring your finished top and have some fun!
How tempted are you to close this suitcase of Charm Packs and head out the door? There is a conveniently located retreat center that you pass on the way down the drive, called Velma’s Gardens. It was Miss Lana’s parent’s house before it became the retreat center. You could take this suitcase and hide there and sew for days, at a very reasonable price.
If you prefer to have your quilt professionally quilted, Lana’s is also a Long Arm Service Center, with two machines in house and ready to go for edge to edge designs.
There are samples scattered throughout the shop as well. Being as this is a working farm, of course there has to be at least one cow in the shop, and she is a fun one! The pattern is available for this lovely lady.
Plan to be here for 30 to 45 minutes, longer if you are leaving a quilt to be completed and need to choose a backing.
