Owned by sisters Margaret and Mary Wildi, the Twisted Sisters Quilt shop is about 17 miles south of Knoxville, Tennessee, in the small town of Alcoa. The shop was purchased by the sisters when they moved south from Columbus, Ohio, and renamed Twisted Sisters “just for fun.” And yes, that is my micro camper reflected in the window! The reflective coating prevents sun damage to the fabrics inside, and allows the shop to display wonderful quilt pictures.
Inside you will find a lovely collection of samples and over 3,000 bolts of fabric . I really enjoy the horizontal shelving. It makes it really easy to pull out bolts to look at, or to unwrap a couple of times and hang to get an idea how fabric matches look from a distance. Fabrics include a Civil War room that also has wool, a Grunge room, batiks, and over 50 different wide backings.
Don’t miss the samples hung throughout the shop. There is a great selection of patterns and notions to browse through as well. The Dragon Quilt at the right is stunning “in person,” and the fabric and pattern are available. Don’t wait too long; it has sold out once already…
The shop is also a drop off point for a local Long Arm Service, so if you are going to be in the area for awhile and have a top you want to have finished, call and see what you can arrange.
Don’t miss the racks of precuts and fat quarters. There are also kits available throughout the shop, and batting if you need some.
Plan to spend at least 30 minutes here, browsing from room to room and checking out all of the wonderful fabrics.
