Just over a mile from Interstate 81 Exit 59, you will find Paul & Yvonne Crowe’s Heavenly Stitches Quilt Shop. This shop has several items I had not seen before, starting with shelving for fabrics that is on an angle, so she could carry more inventory in less space. I felt like I was back in the library of my childhood, but with fabric instead of books.
Not to say that there are not books, and patterns, and notions to be enjoyed. There is a great collection of specialty buttons, as well as cork fabrics both plain and with gold highlights.
There is also a selection of applique heat transfer vinyl. I had not seen this before, and I was left wondering – what would shiny rainbow (oil slick) stars look like on black quilt blocks? It would give embellishment a whole new meaning. Of course, these also work for T-shirts and other clothing.
I mentioned fabric, did I not? Over 5,500 bolts to choose from, including, batiks, blenders, solids, and a lot of panels. There are Kona Cottons, and a wonderful selection of Christmas fabrics. There is also a nice selection of Wilmington and Benartex lines. Samples and panels are displayed above the shelves. Kits are also available.
There are flat top carts available for shopping, so you don’t have to carry your selections around in your arms. This also makes it easy to lay out fabrics for color matching.
Heavenly Stitches is a Brother Sewing Machine dealer, and it is worth the time to look at these machines. Miss Yvonne carries everything from basic sewing to top of the line embroidery. There are also Brother long arm systems for sale, if you are ready to take your quilting to the next level.
The shop is open again, after having been closed due to the COVID pandemic. Do bring a mask and plan to practice social distancing. I do miss the chatting and color discussions with other customers in the shop, but we did manage some from a distance. Plan to spend at least 30 to 40 minutes here.
