Judy Fenton’s Millcreek Sewing and Fabric is just a couple of miles from the Peach Street exit off of Interstate 90. Peach Street is divided, and there is no crossover in front of the shop, so you will need to pass it and make a U-turn. Don’t let that stop you! The shop has a white picket fence and is across from Amish Buggy and Furniture.
There is a lot of fabric here, at least 3,000 bolts to choose from. The picture at the right is just the light colored grunge – there is another shelf of dark colors. There is also a great selection of blenders, as well as prints and batiks. Notice the samples present on top of shelves and hanging next to shelves – there is plenty of inspiration to be had here!
Millcreek is a major Baby Lock dealer. There are lots of machines available to tempt you, including the Sashiko. This machine makes a stitch that looks like hand quilting – but it’s done with a machine. You wouldn’t want to piece with it, but the fun you could have! Plan to take some time checking out the machines while you are in the shop.
Of course, a machine needs to have thread – lots of thread, and lots of colors! Have fun selecting your favorites.
Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here. The shop has a temporary four masked customer limit – check ahead to see when this is lifted. It is worth the wait in line!
Miss Judy also owns a sister shop and retreat center, Needle in a Haystack, just over the border in New York, that has not been allowed to open yet. If you don’t see a fabric you are looking for, ask – it may be at the other location.
