The Quilt Cabin Goshen, Ohio

This rural shop is about 27 miles from Interstate 71 exit 55, but the detour is well worth the time. Owner Linda Hahn built this log cabin to house her shop, The Quilt Cabin, and has over 2,200 bolts of fabric inside.

Fabrics range from solids and blenders to some really gorgeous prints, with batiks to complete the mix. The first floor is open so shelving can be rearranged as needed, and all of the shelving in the center is on wheels. This allows it to be rolled to the edge of the room, fabric and all, leaving the center clear as an accessible classroom space. As an engineer, I find this fascinating as well as excellent design.

There is a great collection of samples both on the walls and above the shelves. There are also quilts hung over the railing for the second floor, which houses offices, the long arm machine, storage space, and occasionally the store mascot. The shop does provide long arm service, so be sure to discuss having your masterpiece finished.

Keep your eyes open for Orchid, a new line of cat samplers designed by the owner’s daughter. This mischievous cat is designed as wall hangings, with several months or seasons represented already. I can easily see them as a full quilt when the line is completed.

Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here to enjoy all of the fabrics and samples available.
