A Stitch Between Friends Jamestown, Ohio

You will find no outside sign at A Stitch Between Friends. Owner Jeannie Allen explained that this is because the township does not permit outside signs for businesses. Google Maps gets you to the correct place – look in the window to the right of the man door right of the garage door for the sign in the window (inset).

The shop is located just 7 miles from Interstate 71, southeast of Dayton, Ohio. It started as a long arm service, and added fabric as more and more customers asked for it. The current location is new enough that contractors were still putting finishing touches on doors on the day I visited, in spite of the snow. Inside is a cozy shop with over 750 bolts of fabric.

Fabrics range from flannels to panels, with lots of cottons in between. There are two shelves of wide backs to choose from, as well as brights, blenders and prints. A selection of Civil War fabrics rounds out the collection nicely.

Don’t miss the collection of antique machines around the top of the shelves. It started with the owner’s mother’s machine. Then she picked one up at an auction, and then people saw them and gifted more. Now it has become a parade of machines around the shop!

There are two long arm machines in the shop, one used for free motion and one computerized. Take a few minutes to discuss having one of your treasures quilted while you are in the shop. The Dresden plate in the photo was absolutely lovely, and being hand guided, not by computer. Miss Jeannie is an artist in her own right with the long arm.

Finally, pay attention to the display furniture. This antique wagon is wonderful and worth examining.

There will be a Retreat Center opening in the back portion of the shop soon – call for updates and to schedule your group. With farmland on all sides, I can’t imagine a more relaxing place to get away.

Plan to spend about 30 minutes here, longer if you get to chatting!

  1. I have a quilt top ready for your longarm quilting service. When do you think that part of your business will be up again?
