Tucked in front of the Holmes County Flea Market is a large pole building with over 10,000 bolts of fabric inside. It is about 20 miles west of Interstate 77 on Ohio Route 39, but it is in Ohio’s Amish country, and there are several shops to visit, so plan to make it a day trip.
Zinck’s has been in business for 40 years, 15 at this location. There are also stores in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Ligonier, Indiana, but I have not been to those two – yet!
Owned by Nick Schrock, Zinck’s Fabric Outlet is an all purpose fabric store with really great prices, supplying the local Amish and Mennonite communities with home decorator fabric and clothing fabric, and the world with quilting fabric. There is a lot of denim here in blue and black, so if you want to try a denim quilt come shopping. Easily two thirds of the fabric on hand is quilting cotton – that is over 7,500 bolts, plus flat folds.
There are shelves and tables of bolts to choose from, and tables of flat folds as well. Many of the flat folds are six yard pieces – think backing fabric! The store also carries a nice selection of wide backings if you prefer. Note the fabric sorted by colors along the walls in the background, behind the table of bolts below.
There is an area that has fabrics by subject – birds, butterflies, vegetables, and so on. The one at the right is Dogs, Native American, Horses, Western, and Farm Animals. Different headers are above the shelves shown below. If you are making a themed quilt, this is the perfect place to shop.
Look up! There are samples hung from the rafters all over the store. I spent a lot of time just looking them over. If you do embellishments, there is a selection of laces and trims as well.
Plan to spend at least an hour here – I was in the store that long and I’m not sure I saw everything. It is close enough to me that I will be back, but if you are passing through you probably want to allow a bit longer.

Stop back on Wednesday and see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
I enjoyed visiting this shop. There is so much to see. This could brake my fabric budget.
It is close to my home also. Sure I will visit again.
