Frank and Sandy Lord’s Gallery of Fabric is just off of the courthouse square in Mercer, Pennsylvania, two and one half miles north on Interstate 80 Exit 15, and it is well worth the detour. Please note that photos are not permitted – unless you ask for and receive express permission.
This is my go to shop for unique panels. They always have at least three or four I have not seen anywhere else, and their pricing is the best in the area. There was a salesman in while I was there for the new panels and fabrics coming later this year, and I got a sneak peek at some of them. They are beautiful!

When you enter the store there is a wall of batiks to your left. These include Northcott’s Banyan Batiks. These are batiks with printed features, some in gold, and have a wonderful hand. Think of them as batik with attitude.
Other fabric selections range from Civil War to Flannel to landscape prints. There is a room of kids prints and sale fabrics.
There are walls of blenders, and of course they have my large prints for Stack-n-Whack. The selection of wide backings is one of the best I’ve seen. Look for the “Bolt of the Day,” which is discounted for that day only. There are easily 5,000 bolts of fabric to tempt you, and dozens of samples, with patterns , to inspire your next project. Classes are also available to learn new techniques or to just have fun quilting with a group.
Gallery of Fabric is the local dealer for both Janome sewing machines and HandiQuilter Long Arm systems. Make sure you check out these machines while you are there. There is generally a long arm set up with the shorter table for demonstration purposes if you’d like to try driving one.
I generally spend at least an hour here; I would allow at least that for your first visit.. The shop is only a two and a half hour drive from my home, so it is one I visit regularly.
