Little Foot Quilt Shoppe Evans City, Pennsylvania

If you are traveling on Interstate 79 in Butler County, take a short detour to visit this shop. The name comes from the Little Foot 1/4″ quilting foot, invented by owner Sarah Barnett’s mother. “That Purple Thang” was also invented by Miss Sarah’s mother.

The goal for the shop is to have fun and teach a lot of quilting. Customers called it “an upbeat, positive place to come and have fun.” Several Long Arm providers meet customers and exchange quilts here, as a service to the customers and the service providers. The shop is a retailer for HandiQuilter Long Arm systems.

There are some wonderful fabrics here, including the larger scale prints I love for Stack-n-Whack. The shop also has a great collection of Grunge, including dots and stars. Don’t miss the blenders and solids while you are touring the shop, as you have plenty of choices to match to those wonderful prints.

There are patterns located both on a common shelf and on the uprights of the fabric shelves near the fabrics you can use to make them. There are also samples available for inspiration, and fat quarters tucked away between the taller bolt shelves. With between 2,000 and 3,000 bolts on hand, you are sure to find something that tickles your fancy.

On the day I was in to visit, there were kits being cut, a long arm provider delivering a completed quilt and picking up another, and preparations being made for a “Top Secret” second Thursday project. These are just a few of the things going on in this bustling shop. There is a Sew Along, several Block of the Month groups, a Saturday Sampler – the list goes on. If you want to go on a retreat, there is a four day Quilters on Campus at Slippery Rock in July, as well as shorter retreats available. Please check the online calendar for details on all of these activities.

What is sealed in the paint cans? It is Top Secret – and having had a husband and two children in the military, I know what that means! You have to come in the second Thursday of the month to find out. No one would even give me a hint – which, although annoying, is as it should be!

Plan to be in this shop for at least 45 minutes to see all that is going on.
