Owner Barb Schrader started in a corner of the family greenhouse, and now has an addition and a retreat center to house the shop. Pay attention to the picture on the left – Google Maps will direct you to the two story building you see down the hill on the right on Walter Road. Please watch for the Schrader’s Florist and Greenhouse (and Quilt Shop) sign on the left going down the hill, and ignore the frantic voice of Google. I ended up calling for directions.
The shop carries over 2,000 bolts of cotton, over 150 bolts of Cuddle, and over 150 bolts of flannel. Shelves are four tall, with staff standing by top reach things down from the higher shelves for you. There are also samples above the shelves – no shortage of inspiration here!
There are over 200 panels to choose from, and Jason Yenter and Farm Girl Vintage collections. The Farm Girl Vintage reminded me a lot of the feed sacks my sisters and I used for blouses when we were kids.
The shop also has a weighted blanket that isn’t weighted – it just feels like it is. It is made from Cuddle fabrics, and can be purchased complete, as a kit, or as yardage to make your own size – quilter’s choice!
Last but not least, go out back and tour the Retreat Center. This started as a barn, morphed into a florist shop, and then was reborn as a two apartment Retreat Center that can sleep up to 12 guests and has a full kitchen. There is a handicapped accessible single suite on the first floor. Retreat guests get a discount on using the long arm machine, so bring your group and your tops and spend the week-end! There is cork, and samples of purses both to buy and inspire. Don’t leave without petting Mr.Moose – he is made from Cuddle and is wonderfully soft, and the plaid under his ears is adorable. Plan to be here 45 minutes to an hour to see it all.
