Take a seven mile ride over the mountain from Exit 7 on Interstate 99 to find this unique shop. It is up a gravel lane on a hilltop in the country, and a really nice find. Owned by John Zimmerman, it started as a cabinet shop for sewing machines. When there was no Bernina dealer in the area, to sell machines to go into the cabinets, he was asked to sell the machines as well. If you are going to sell machines, why not fabric to sew on them? A quilt shop is born!
This is one of the cabinets that started the shop. I love real, natural, wood as opposed to the press board that is so prevalent today. I wish you could feel this finish – it is as smooth as butter.
There is a great selection of fabrics here- check out the prints on the bottom shelf! There is also a wall covered with panels. I found yardage of a waterfall that I had not seen before. There are samples scattered along the racks as well as on the walls, so there is no shortage of inspiration.
The shop is the local Bernina dealer and repair facility. There are standard sewing machines, long arm, and embroidery machines available. I found some embroidery samples that are lovely. Although I do not own an embroidery machine, these samples may yet tempt me! I’ve seen embroidered lace at several of the shops, but nothing like the pieces below. They are stunning in person.
You will notice there is no website or email for this shop. This is a conscious decision, and helps keep overhead low. Prices here were 15-20% lower as a result, making it well worth the trip.

The Johnstown tribune had an article about a group in Johnstown sewing medical masks. and that the pattern came from your shop. May I please have a copy of the provided pattern?
