What do you do when you are a Nurse Practitioner and you enjoy quilting and teaching others to quilt? Open a quilting and sewing shop, of course! Sisters Too, owned by Deidre Dudley and managed by her sister, is the result, and the classes here are not limited to quilting.
The shop is about two and a half miles from Interstate 65. Google will tell you that you have arrived when you are in front of Lindo Mexico, a Mexican restaurant. The shop is actually behind the restaurant.
Sisters Too is a place to go to learn. Whether it is basic dressmaking, knitting, basket weaving, quilting, how to use a long arm machine to quilt, or how to get the most from your domestic sewing machine, this is the place to be. Check out the class schedule online and see what you’d like to learn next.
This is primarily a sewing machine store, carrying various models of Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff sewing, embroidery, and long arm quilting machines. They moved into their new location a couple of weeks before I stopped in, so set-up was still in progress, but that did not keep the friendly staff from showing me around. Sisters Too is also a repair center for sewing machines. Some repairs are done in house, and some need to be sent out – it depends upon the severity of the problem and the age of the machine. There is both a long arm business and an alteration business that share space in the shop, so bring in your quilt tops to be quilted and your trousers to be hemmed!
There is a selection of fabric available, around 200 bolts of blenders and prints. A customer was working on a Laura Heine collage while I was there, and these patterns are available as well. Also check out the notions and sample quilts – one complete with a Blue Ribbon from a local show.
