Just 2 miles from I70 and about 40 miles west of the Ohio/Indiana Border is a wonderful shop called Nancy’s Fancy’s Sewing Corner. Owner Nancy Burkhardt is working on moving her office to the back to make more room for classes. This shop is one of the better examples I’ve seen of maximizing space to offer as much variety as possible.
Fabrics and samples rule here. There is a full range of fabrics, from Kaffe Fassett to batiks to blenders and prints. If you are unsure of your next project, come on in and look around. You’re sure to find inspiration, and in many cases a kit to go with it. Don’t like the fabric in the kit? Feel free to buy the pattern and choose your own fabrics.
Have you seen Moda Candies yet? They are two and a half inch square “little sisters” to Charm Packs and Layer Cakes. They come with patterns to match, like the bag in the top left in this picture. I can see tucking these between strips for a Jelly Roll Race to make the final quilt a bit wider and add some sparkle to it. What would you do with them?
Nancy’s Fancy’s is a dealer for both Brother and Janome sewing machines. The shop carries everything from basic sewing machines to embroidery systems you can use to finish a quilt by moving the hoop several times. (There is class to explain how to do this.) If you are looking for a new machine for Christmas, stop in for a demonstration.
There is a full range of classes besides the one mentioned above, an Embroidery Club, and a Strip Club. (No undressing required or allowed!)
There are also Anita Goodesign Embroidery Patterns and several Row By Row choices. This is an extremely eclectic shop, with a bit of everything. Plan to spend at least 45 minutes here to see all of it.
